A short review

A year ago, BaselArea.swiss presented BaseLaunch at a fully booked launch event in Basel, Switzerland. Guests from the healthcare industry, research, academia and the start-up scene followed our invitation. We introduced a new accelerator program specifically tailored to healthcare ventures.

While we organized events about founding sources and discussion panels with experts from the pharma and biotech industry, next-generation entrepreneurs from all over the world were busy completing application documents. And so it came to pass that interest from startups in BaseLaunch exceeded all expectations. By the application deadline last June, more than 100 projects from Switzerland and abroad had been submitted. This demonstrated that Basel as a leading life sciences hub provides a very attractive ecosystem for healthcare startups.

In September 2017, the BaseLaunch selection committee chose 13 promising startups to begin Phase I. Benefits included:

  • no strings attached access to our healthcare partners
  • tailored sessions with highly experienced advisors
  • access to state-of-the-art infrastructure
  • up to 10,000 Swiss francs financial support for consulting services

Six of our projects recently started Phase II, receiving either grants up to 250,000 Swiss francs or gaining free of charge access to BaseLaunch laboratory and office space at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area.
Hear what our startups, team and selection committee members experienced in our first year – and find out more about what makes BaseLaunch unique.

We could not have done this without our partners. A big thank you to our healthcare partners  Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Novartis Venture Fund, Pfizer, Roche and Roivant Sciences. Also the cantons Basel Landschaft, Basel-Stadt and Jura, Innosuisse, Fitec, Gerbert Rüf Stiftung, KPMG, Switzerland Innovation and Vossius & Partner. Finally yet importantly, our media partners Labiotech.eu and startupticker.ch.

With this, the BaseLaunch accelerator journey continues
